There are only two more days of regular play left in the ALGS 2023 Pro League for Apex Legends before the finals on May 7th. Last weekend groups B and C battled it out in some truly amazing Apex Legends, with some teams standing out among the others as the gap between those who will make it to LAN and those who will not widens. Here are a few of the moments that teams ran rampant over the competition.

Horizon Union EZ Clap on Passion

It was a bad start to the day for Passion in the EMEA region in Match 1. They occupied the top floor of a building in the early zone with Horizon Union underneath. It’s often that teams can easily coexist here for the first few circles, not wanting to risk going out early.

But for Horizon Union, that was free KP sitting above them. Kai "Faenex" van Duppen on the Seer dropped his Exhibit ultimate, allowing Horizon Union to see exactly where Passion was, this drew all three of their eyes to the stairs and they didn’t notice Bilal "urban" Fulat walk up the room and peak right inside the window. He beams the first member of Passion with his R-99 for 132, then slides away.

He then returns immediately to see Passion’s Valkyrie right in front of the window but not watching where his teammate just got hit from. Urban beams him for over 100 damage leaving two of Passion’s members ripe for his teammates to ascend the stairs and finish them off.

Horizon finished the match day at 7th overall, keeping them in contention for the finals.

Dynasty Endures the Third Party

In Match 3 viewers were reminded why the game is sometimes called Third Party Legends. JLINGZ Esports and Fire Beavers get into a fight just west of Cascade, but before a winner in that teamfight can be decided Dynasty comes in to break up the party.

Most of the Fire Beavers fall, but one of them gets away as Dynasty cleans up JLINGZ. This was just the beginning of Dynasty’s test. As Dynasty is trying to recover and stabilize Ethernal pushes in as fourth party.

Dynasty has the position advantage, but they’re hurt compared to a fully healed Ethernal. Ethernal should’ve been able to make an easy clean team wipe here, but Anton "Slab" Eklundh was almost entirely out of the fight as he stood pinned behind a door being held by Dynasty. His team continued to push in through the middle section of the building, but in a two versus three through a locked down choke point, it was a losing battle.

Dynasty drop Josef "B4mbino" Nedorost first, then Joshua “joshh” Jones drops one of Dynasty’s players. At this point William "Tolkien" Kihlgren engages with Slab and drops him and it doesn’t take long to clean up the rest. What started as a promising third party and team wipe for Ethernal ends in disaster.

They even get one last kill on Kiryl "9impulse" Kostsiu from Fire Beavers as he doubles back around, either to recover his teammates banners or try to get a few cheeky kills in on the end of the fight.

DarkZero Delete Oxygen

In the North American Region, DarkZero Esports continue to demonstrate what makes them a force to be reckoned with. As the casters are commenting them on how quickly they are able to loot their POI and start rotations, DarkZero comes across Oxygen Esports.

It’s important to note that Oxygen has the high ground here, but DarkZero are in all purple armor despite it being round 1 of the match already. Oxygen has only one purple armor and two whites. Alexander "Enemy" Rodriguez is the first to peak over the edge at DarkZero and loses his shields.

It’s time for DarkZero to press the W key. Elijah "Hill" Hill from Oxygen, the only one with a purple shield and their in-game leader, moves down to engage and gets completely deleted. It’s only a matter of seconds from that point before Oxygen is a memory to match 1.

This moment for DarkZero is exactly what makes them such a powerful team. They took 6th place in match 1 for 15 points, which was the same amount of points that first, second and third place took. How did a 6th place team earn as much as the first three? They had 12 kills.

DarkZero are such monsters during the match, they earn more points through kills than other teams do through higher placement. Their performance over the weekend helped them rise to third place overall for the North American Region in the Pro League.

Luminosity Take God Spot

In the final match of the night in North America, Luminosity Gaming demonstrated the strength of positioning and finding the God Spot for the final ring. Just east of Countdown on World’s Edge, 100 Thieves Alex "scuwry" Scala holds a great high ground positioning on the silos, but is all alone.

Luminosity pushed his position causing him to immediately retreat. From here, not only does Luminosity have the center of the circle and high ground, but the remaining three teams are all on the same side and forced to fight one another.

It’s fish in a barrel as Luminosity uses grenades to burn out 100 Thieves, then easily clean up the last two teams with complete ease and no pressure whatsoever.
